“On Jan. 17, 1961, President Dwight Eisenhower gave the nation a dire warning about what he described as a threat to democratic government. He called it the military-industrial complex, a formidable union of defense contractors and the armed forces.”

I needed to open with that line, because today it is the military complex that drives both Republican and Democrat institutions. It was during the years of Bush and Donald Rumsfeld when the worst of what President Dwight Eisenhower warned against happened.

Stay with me on this one, there is a very clear link between the above and what’s going … Read the rest

Yesterday was an amazing day in the Philippines, for days now we have been bombarded with updates on Super Typhoon Haima. At its peak, Haima packed winds of up to 315 kilometers per hour (195 mph), the equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.

At least 7 people were killed Sunday as Sarika crossed the archipelago north of Manila as a Category 4 storm. Almost 10,000 people were displaced, according to aid organization Care International.

Then it was like a news blackout on the Typoon and its become completely insignificant, almost in a very scary … Read the rest

thronesIn a most unbelievable twist in the game of thrones Canadian style it now appears the young Trudeau outsmarted, outwitted and outplayed both Harper and Mulcair. Unfortunately he outplayed Canadian voters as well.

Without a doubt Trudeau quickly discovered the power of the social media campaign and that he himself missed the boat when Mulcair signed on to the election reform movement. As the NDP started in the election as top dog, the Liberals had to do something extraordinary to steal the thunder away from the NDP.

Without question it does not take a rocket scientist to know that putting … Read the rest

“JLS – Reporting from overseas”

The longer I stay in the Philippines, the more disturbing it is to watch the massive numbers of grandfathers/greatgrandfathers lusting after girls who could be their granddaughter.

Now I have long believed age does not matter when it comes to love, and it should not, however there is a big difference between love and lust, and exploiting vs caring about those young women.

Recently I was reading an obituary written by a fellow expat, of a man who was so painfully aware that he was old (somewhere in his upper 70’s) he described it with … Read the rest

Google killed PanaramioI am sure you are all aware of how much fun it was to explore Google Earth, and look at eye witness photos of what life is like down there on that part of our plant.

The bad news is the Google Earth simply closed the doors on Panaramio, they don’t need the millions of people who contributed their photos anymore. Over the next year they want all of you photographers to move to a much better location called Google Plus where they can load your pages full of commercial advertisements.

This is the second blow in a row for … Read the rest

“JLS – Reporting from overseas”

As a foreigner watching the senate hearings I was stunned at one portion of the question where De Lima was what in most courtrooms is termed badgering the witness. De Lima has a history of having failed to bring a case against Duterte via the human rights organization years ago.

For those of you who might question the numbers I posted, please start watching this video at the 1 hour mark. I highly suggest you watch Senator Gordon’s speech, or exchange with Dela Rosa, start watching about the 1 hour and 20 minute mark, and … Read the rest
