Reconciliation within the Wet’suwet’en family

Now that the crisis within the family is over, we watch how all of Canada continues to mind “our business” as if our lives belonged to them. Having said that does not mean we should give up on uniting as a family within our own Wet’suwet’en Nation.

Recently others also have talked about the desire to bring the Wet’suwet’en Nation back together, some suggested it be done in the place were we have done it for thousands of years, in the feast hall. For the sake of our forefathers I would love to agree, however it’s a lot like we cannot go back to bows and arrows as opposed to guns, horseback as opposed to 4 wheel drives, sometimes the old way simply is no longer viable, let me explain why.

The first thing that comes to mind when we talk about reconciliation is, you cannot reconcile after you have disarmed all of your competition.  You cannot reconcile unless you restore the titles of all 3 matriarchs that were stripped of their title, and allow them to take their roles as equals in the feast hall.

Second you need to put all of the communities outside of Witset on equal footing, inclusive of allowing their chiefs to be equal to the chiefs that come from Witset.

Unless you remove the power created by some, especially in a group of families that have intimidated everyone who stands in their way, for the sake of reconciliation I will decline from naming them but they know who they are.

We cannot undo what and who said it in social media, but a lot of very destructive insults were hurled at those in support of CGL. Unless the issue of CGL is removed from the table, any meeting to reconcile is a loaded dice in favor of the power brokers by bully tactics.

As my intention here was to encourage reconciliation within the family, I will propose a much better and safer solution.  I propose that we as a nation take a vote, one where everyone can vote without fear of reprisal, one where you can vote your conscience, and the question on that ballot would be something like this.

Are you in favor of keeping the “Office of Wet’suwet’en” as the negotiating body for our people?

OR

Should decisions be made via voting as opposed to made by Hereditary Chiefs?

Seriously we need to address the elephant in the room, there would not be an issue today if not for the sheer volume of members os the Wet’suwet’en Nation who refuse to accept the dictatorship by 13 members who call themselves the authority over the Wet’suwet’en Nation.

Even passing on names in our sacred halls has become tainted with threats and violence against our own family members, we need to end this, and we cannot allow those in power today to use that position to fake reconciliation with funds that belong to the Wet’suwet’en Nation

Name removed by request
Due in large part to threats against my family.

Thanks for having taken the time to visit and read our articles. I had my say, feel free to post your thoughts as well, be part of making a difference.

If the Carrier Nation was returned to the true clan territories, recognizing there is No fifth clan nor territory. There is only four clans making 16 hereditary chiefs and these chiefs have vast lands of people, animals, resources as well. As I understand the history the C 31 urban Indian, disinfranchised Indian joined the mix in the 90’s and all clan/family hell broke lose hence forth the OW. The crown sure had their hand in there tearing lands and families apart.
Anyway, seems clear to me that if a very real hereditary chiefs meeting was called, then each house takes it territory as per the original carrier Nation…it’s time to shake it up in Canada, help our country ….be an example of excellence and save our country ….cause I wanna live where you live .
