Parliament Hill has never been short of controversy, but nothing compares to the heist being pulled off today by a government that could neither get elected by the rules, or win without the assistance of a criminal act against democracy.
Most rational people would have agreed when you win control of the Canadian Parliament in this manner, the least you could do is show a little humility and respect to the people of Canada.
Part of the problem is the oath of office, we need to demand change in the oath taken by members of “our” parliament. It is our parliament as per its name House of Commons, simplified it means the house of the people; it should never have become the house owned by big oil.
Let’s look at why we need to change the oath taken by Canadian members of parliament.
The current oath is as follows.
The wording of the Oath is as follows:
I (Member’s name), do swear, that I will be faithful and bear true Allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second.
The wording of the solemn affirmation is as follows:
I (Member’s name) do solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare and affirm that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second.
Does anyone besides me see there is a problem here? There is no commitment to Canada, there is no commitment to serve your constituency. There is no commitment to protect the people of Canada, there is no commitment to protect the property of Canadians.
When you swear in as a member of Parliament, you are making an oath to only serve the Queen of England!
There is only one promise, which is one to the Queen of England. And you wondered why Harper could tell you there are no more funds available for Medicare, no more funds available for social services, no more money left for scientific research into protecting our environment, no more money available for anything that is good for the public.
However there is funding for the Queens Jubilee, there is funding as well as massive tax breaks for corporations. OK please tell me what you are witnessing is a conspiracy theory!
Harper gutted our environmental protection laws to accommodate the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline as well as the Kinder Morgan proposed pipelines and expansion.
We have in place a National Energy Board spending mega-millions of your tax dollars on hearings, and a dictator in parliament who has declared he will override the results if they are not in favor of Enbridge.
Imagine your prime minister making a commitment to a communist country, to ignore the system of our own democracy, and overrule any decision opposing the pipeline.
Imagine having a prime minister (small p and c by intent) who knows the money is leaving Canada, as well as harming Canada’s economy, but does so anyway.
Clearly we need to legislate powerful treason laws into Canadian law, ones with more bite than bark.
The passing of any Omnibus bill should be illegal, laws passed without debate should be illegal, and anyone who cheats in getting elected should be an automatic disqualification with the RCMP doing a full investigation and sending guilty parties to jail, forget fines, the rich can afford all the fines we ever invented.
Today Harper declared an un-civil war on Canadians; he has made it clear he does not give a damn about Canada, or its citizens.

I followed today’s farce on twitter, as the conservatives rammed through all the changes without a hint of a conscience. The “13 heroes” requested to vote their consciences never appeared,as all of Harper’s MP’s towed the party line (make that the Harper line – the party does not have a say in the decisions). This troupe of dishonourable members not only goose-stepped through the entire pageant, they also managed to cheer their leader at every opportunity. There is not a one of them with any honour, or any dignity after today’s sham. Remember today. Remember the names and faces. And disrupt them at every step, in every way legally possible, and without mercy. None is deserving.
